According to the World Tourism Barometer report by the UN’s specialized agency promoting responsible and sustainable tourism, in 2024 Mexico welcomed 45 million international visitors, marking a 7.4% increase versus 2023, and earning the position of the second most visited destination in the Americas, behind only the United States (72.4 million), and well ahead of Canada (19.9 million) and the Dominican Republic (8.5 million).
In total, 86.4 million international visits were recorded in 2024, representing a 15.5% growth compared to 2023. Of these, 23.2 million arrived by air, reflecting a 1.5% increase over 2023 and an 18% rise compared to 2019. The average spending per visitor was $1,167, up 3.6% from 2023 and 16.5% above 2019 levels.
This upward trend continued into the first half of 2025, with 23.4 million international tourists, a 7.3% increase over the same period in 2024, exceeding the total number of visitors that Canada received in all of 2024.
