Business Confidence in Mexico Starts 2026 with Caution

Business confidence in Mexico showed a slight decline at the start of 2026. In January, the Global Indicator of Business Confidence stood at 48 points, down 0.2 points from December 2025 and 3.4 points year-over-year, according to data from Mexico’s national statistics agency, Inegi.

The indicator remained below the 50-point threshold, signaling a cautious outlook among companies in the manufacturing, trade, and non-financial services sectors. This marks the eleventh consecutive month in which the index has stayed below that level.

In manufacturing, the Business Confidence Indicator reached 48.4 points, with a minor monthly decrease, although perceptions of current business conditions improved slightly. The construction sector recorded 45.5 points, showing a modest monthly increase but remaining below the threshold for the seventeenth consecutive month.

The trade sector declined to 47.1 points, while non-financial private services stood at 48.8 points, with a marginal drop. Overall, three of the four sectors included in the global indicator registered declines during the first month of the year.

Amid uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariff policy and signs of slowing economic activity in Mexico, business sentiment remained measured.
