Heavy truck sales in Mexico drop nearly 39% in February

Retail sales of heavy vehicles in Mexico fell 38.9% year over year in February, marking the fourteenth consecutive month of annual declines, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

A total of 2,303 units were sold during the month, below the 3,396 units projected by the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA).

The industry group noted that all heavy vehicle segments recorded year-over-year declines.

On a monthly basis, however, retail sales increased 11% compared with January.

Other industry indicators also showed contractions. Wholesale sales totaled 1,836 units, a 27.3% annual drop. Production fell 49% to 6,974 vehicles, while exports declined 32% to 7,849 units.
