Heavy vehicle market faces worst ’ratio’ of imported used vehicles in 2025

The heavy-duty vehicle market is facing a particularly challenging year, according to Rogelio Arzate, president of the National Association of Bus, Truck, and Tractor Producers (ANPACT). Two key factors are at play: a contraction of the domestic market and a high volume of used vehicles being imported from the United States.

Alarmingly, for every 100 new units sold, 60 used ones are imported— the highest proportion seen so far in 2025. Although imports of used heavy-duty vehicles dropped by 23.8 % between January and June compared to the same period in 2024, this decrease hasn’t been enough to ease the strain on fleet renewal.

Other key market indicators also show steep declines: wholesale sales for January–July totaled just 16,708 units—a 49.7 % drop compared to the same period last year. In July alone, only 2,175 units were sold, marking a 60.1 % decline from July 2024.
