Mexico’s inflation eases to 3.63% in mid-October

Consumer prices in Mexico rose at an annual rate of 3.63% in the first half of October 2025, according to the latest figures from the national statistics agency. The reading is lower than the 4.69% posted a year earlier, pointing to a gradual cooling of prices despite short-term increases in some categories.

Price index dynamics

The National Consumer Price Index increased 0.28% from late September. Core inflation rose 0.18%, led by higher prices in services and a mild uptick in goods. The non-core index climbed 0.64%, largely due to the expiration of summer power subsidies in 18 cities.

Main price drivers

Electricity, air travel, and housing saw the most notable price gains. On the opposite end, declines in eggs, chicken, and tomatoes helped offset broader pressures.

Minimum-consumption basket

The minimum-consumption price index advanced 0.31% on a biweekly basis and 3.70% year over year—slightly above headline inflation. During the same period in 2024, the increases were 0.39% and 4.34%, respectively.

Outlook

Analysts note that inflation remains within the central bank’s target range, supported by lower food and service prices. Even so, the withdrawal of energy subsidies could temporarily add upward pressure over the coming months.
