The Bank of Mexico has confirmed that, throughout the remainder of 2025, three commonly circulated banknotes 100, 200, and 500 pesos bills from the D1 family will be gradually withdrawn from circulation. This process is part of the central bank’s routine updates to enhance currency security and reduce the risk of counterfeiting.
These older notes remain valid for payments for now, and banks are obligated to accept them and exchange them for currently circulating versions at no cost to users. The withdrawal is due to outdated features in these notes, such as the lack of modern security enhancements like special inks, tactile elements, or transparent windows.
