Mexico’s representative in the United States stated that the upcoming review of the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement (USMCA) should proceed as a trilateral effort including all three countries. Speaking at an international investors forum, the official stressed the importance of legal certainty and of reinforcing North America’s regional competitiveness.
At the same event, a Canadian diplomatic representative in Mexico agreed that preserving a predictable environment is key to sustaining investment flows in the region, given the high degree of integration in supply chains across North America.
Meanwhile, the senior trade authority of the Canadian government noted that although the negotiation phase will likely involve challenges, a coordinated three-party process is the most effective route to prevent disruptions and maintain stability for cross-border trade.
This position emerges as preliminary conversations around the USMCA review gain relevance amid inflationary pressures, shifting geopolitical conditions and adjustments to industrial policy across North America.
