Mexico launches consultations with private sector ahead of USMCA review in 2026

Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, together with the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), has launched a consultation process to prepare the country for the 2026 review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Throughout October, representatives from 30 key industries considered strategic for North American trade will be consulted. The initiative aims to build a comprehensive assessment of industry priorities and develop proposals that enable Mexico to approach the negotiations with a unified position.

Meetings will take place at the Ministry of Economy headquarters, bringing together industry associations, business chambers, and companies from multiple sectors. Additionally, forums will be held across all 32 states with the support of local governments and investment promotion committees.

The range of sectors involved underscores the scope of the agenda: heavy and light vehicles, auto parts, logistics, dairy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, steel and aluminum, mining, energy and petrochemicals, electronics, tourism, construction, among others.

In the opening session, Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard and CCE President Francisco Cervantes highlighted that the review is an opportunity to strengthen competitiveness and deepen regional value chains. Ebrard emphasized that the process is unprecedented in incorporating the private sector, labor representatives, and local governments.

Cervantes affirmed that the business community will contribute with responsible proposals focused on boosting investment, job creation, and shared economic growth.

Also present were leaders of major industry chambers and associations, including Alejandro Malagón, president of Concamin, and Guillermo Funes, president of Canifarma. Ebrard was joined by Deputy Ministers Vidal Llerenas and Luis Rosendo Gutiérrez, as well as Ximena Escobedo, head of the Productive Development Unit.

The commitment is that the conclusions from this process will serve as the foundation for a national strategy, enabling Mexico to enter the review with the United States and Canada better prepared. The shared goal is to present a common vision that enhances integration, certainty, and growth under the USMCA framework.
