United States Imposes New Tariffs on Semi-Finished and High-Copper Content Products: Application Guidelines Issued

The Confederation of Customs Brokers Associations of the Mexican Republic (CAAAREM) announced, through circular T-0133/2025 dated August 1, 2025, relevant information regarding the recent imposition of tariffs on copper products by the United States government.

According to the circular, on July 30, the U.S. government issued an official Proclamation establishing the imposition of tariffs on imports of semi-finished copper products and other high-copper content derivatives. This measure is part of a broader trade strategy aimed at protecting domestic industry from practices deemed unfair or harmful to economic security.

Following this announcement, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released an official guidance document detailing the application of these new tariffs. The guide includes classification criteria, the scope of affected products, key dates, and operational procedures for compliance.

CAAAREM has made the full circular available to its members, including further details on the measure and a link to the official guidance from U.S. authorities. Importers, customs brokers, and other stakeholders in international trade are strongly advised to review this information carefully and take the necessary precautions for their commercial operations.
