Agricultural Seasonality to Be Discussed in Upcoming USMCA Talks

Agricultural seasonality is expected to be one of the topics addressed during the next rounds of discussions between Mexico and the United States as part of the review process for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Trade officials have confirmed that negotiations will continue through June and July, covering issues such as agriculture, fair competition and trade rules. The meetings are part of a broader effort to evaluate the agreement’s performance and examine concerns raised by different industries.

The seasonality issue has been promoted by some U.S. agricultural groups seeking additional tools to address import volumes during specific harvest periods. Mexican industry representatives, meanwhile, have emphasized the importance of maintaining trade conditions consistent with the agreement’s existing provisions and technical standards.

The USMCA review is taking place amid broader discussions involving agricultural trade, market investigations and regional competitiveness across North America.

Officials from both countries have indicated that negotiations will continue in the coming weeks ahead of the treaty’s formal review process scheduled for this year.
