Mexico is preparing for another round of talks with the United States in Washington as part of the USMCA review, with several trade-sensitive industries expected to remain high on the agenda.
The automotive sector is a key priority. Mexico is seeking relief from the 25% U.S. tariff affecting certain vehicles while preserving favorable treatment for auto parts and other goods that meet USMCA requirements.
Steel and aluminum are also under discussion. Mexican officials have called for changes to the tariffs imposed under Section 232, pointing to the high level of integration between the two countries’ industries.
Agriculture remains another important area, with talks covering market access and trade measures affecting specific products. Mexico has increased the participation of agricultural officials in the bilateral negotiations.
Regional supply chains will also be a major focus, including efforts to source more inputs within North America and gradually reduce dependence on some Asian suppliers. The issue is closely tied to rules of origin and broader economic security goals.
The fourth bilateral round is scheduled to take place in Washington in September, building on discussions held earlier this year.
