Mexico’s agricultural imports increased 9.3% by volume during the first four months of 2026, according to figures from the Agricultural Markets Consulting Group (GCMA). In value terms, imports totaled $7.36 billion, a 5.9% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Yellow corn was the country’s top agricultural import between January and April, reaching 5.78 million tons, up 20.9% year over year. White corn imports also rose significantly, increasing 38.2% to 260,598 tons.
According to GCMA director Juan Carlos Anaya, the increase is linked to domestic supply falling short of demand from the flour industry.
Soybeans and soybean products were the second-largest category. Imports of soybeans totaled 1.59 million tons, a 28.3% increase from 2025, with a value of $690.9 million.
By contrast, durum wheat imports declined 10.2%, falling from 1.27 million tons in 2025 to 1.14 million tons in the same period of 2026.
