Mexico and the United States are scheduled to hold a second round of formal discussions from May 27 to 29 as part of the lead-up to the upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which is expected to begin in July. Mexican officials have described the process as challenging due to the wide range of economic and trade interests involved.
The meetings will build on previous bilateral discussions and aim to identify areas of common ground before the formal review of the North American trade pact. Topics commonly addressed in these talks include rules of origin, trade facilitation, supply chain integration, and sector-specific trade matters.
In force since 2020, the USMCA serves as the foundation of economic integration across North America. The upcoming review will provide an opportunity to assess the agreement’s performance and consider adjustments that could enhance regional competitiveness and strengthen trade cooperation among the three member countries.
Officials from both countries have emphasized the importance of continued dialogue throughout the review process, seeking to maintain stability and predictability for trade and investment across the region.
