Mexico imported 32.9 million metric tons of grains, oilseeds, and related products between January and August 2026, up 6% from the same period a year earlier.
The value of those imports increased 4.7% to $10.25 billion, according to customs data compiled by agricultural consultancy GCMA.
Corn accounted for much of the increase. Total corn imports rose 8.1% to 17.11 million metric tons, including 16.53 million tons of yellow corn. Yellow corn purchases were 9.7% higher than a year earlier.
White corn moved in the opposite direction, with imports falling 24.3% to 573,400 metric tons.
Soybean imports also increased, rising 15.5% to 6.84 million metric tons, while canola purchases grew 15.2%.
According to GCMA, Mexico imports roughly 58% of the grains and oilseeds it consumes. The group links the rise in foreign purchases partly to domestic conditions affecting farm profitability, financing, and crop marketing decisions.
