Italian companies continue to show interest in investing and expanding operations in Mexico despite uncertainty surrounding the USMCA review, according to Italy’s ambassador to Mexico, Alessandro Modiano.
The ambassador said Mexico remains attractive because of its skilled workforce, competitive operating costs, and access to major international markets, particularly North America.
These factors allow Italian companies to use Mexico as a manufacturing and export platform for regional and international markets.
Modiano highlighted the automotive and food industries as areas with a significant Italian presence through both trade and investment. He said investors are taking a more cautious approach to the energy sector because of the current business environment.
Economic ties could also gain support from the modernization of the trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union, which is intended to update trade conditions between the two markets.
Future investment will ultimately depend on the outcome of the USMCA review, regulatory conditions, and the specific opportunities available across different industries.
