ANTAD Retail Sales Rose 0.8% in May

Sales at chains affiliated with Mexico’s National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores (ANTAD) increased 0.8% year over year in May on a same-store basis, which includes locations operating for more than one year.

The figure points to moderate growth across the retail sector. According to the reported data, it was the weakest May performance since 2020, when retail activity was disrupted by the start of the pandemic and temporary closures of nonessential stores.

On a total-store basis, which includes all locations open during the past 12 months, sales rose 3% compared with May 2025. That gain, however, came in below May’s annual inflation rate of 3.95%.

ANTAD member chains generated 150.4 billion pesos in revenue during the month.

Specialty retailers posted the strongest results, with sales up 5.3% on a same-store basis and 9.2% across all stores. Department stores, by contrast, reported declines of 4.2% and 3.2%, respectively.
