Mexico and the United Kingdom discussed new measures to support bilateral trade and investment, with a focus on reducing administrative barriers for small and medium-sized businesses.
The issue was addressed during a working meeting between Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco and UK Ambassador to Mexico Susannah Goshko at Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two officials reviewed areas for economic cooperation and ways to deepen commercial ties between both countries.
Mexico’s Foreign Ministry pointed to the United Kingdom’s entry into the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, or CPTPP, as a development that could help expand trade and investment flows. In 2025, bilateral trade between Mexico and the UK reached $6.293 billion.
Goshko said both governments agreed on the need to strengthen economic links, make cross-border business easier and create better conditions for SMEs to participate in international trade.
The United Kingdom joined the CPTPP in 2024, becoming the first European country to take part in the trade agreement, which includes economies from Asia-Pacific and the Americas.
