Inflation in Mexico slowed in May 2026, according to the National Consumer Price Index (INPC). The index stood at 145.527 points, down 0.21% from the previous month.
On an annual basis, headline inflation reached 3.94%, lower than the 4.42% reported in May 2025. The figure points to a slower pace of price increases, although several goods and services continued to affect household expenses.
Core inflation, which excludes the most volatile items, rose 0.22% month over month. Within this category, goods increased 0.16%, while services advanced 0.29%.
Non-core inflation fell 1.65% in monthly terms. The decline was mainly driven by lower prices for fruits and vegetables, which dropped 3.18%, along with adjustments in energy prices and electricity rates linked to the warm-weather season.
Items that saw price increases included potatoes, owner-occupied housing, prepared food at small restaurants and taco shops, and LP gas. Meanwhile, electricity, green tomatoes and eggs were among the products and services that posted price declines.
Inflation trends are closely watched by consumers, businesses and policymakers because they help measure changes in purchasing power and support decisions related to spending, saving and economic planning.
