Argentina posted a cumulative trade surplus of $18.25 billion in the first eight months of 2026, up from $5.11 billion during the same period a year earlier.
Exports reached $67.25 billion, a 21.4% year-over-year increase, while imports fell 2.6% to $49 billion.
The decline was more pronounced in volume terms. Imports of capital goods dropped 12.6%, while parts and accessories for capital equipment fell 27.6%.
Intermediate goods, which are widely used in production, rose 4.6% in value but declined 0.8% in volume, reflecting higher import prices.
In August alone, exports increased 12.4% from a year earlier to $8.88 billion, while imports totaled $6.7 billion. The monthly trade surplus stood at $2.19 billion.
Energy exports were among the strongest-performing categories during the month, while primary-product shipments declined.
