Mexico’s heavy-vehicle market delivered mixed results in July 2026, with wholesale sales continuing to improve while retail volumes declined again from a year earlier, according to data from ANPACT, Mexico’s industry association for bus and heavy-truck manufacturers.
Wholesale sales reached 2,490 units in July, up 21.8% from 2,045 units in the same month of 2025. From January through July, wholesale volume totaled 17,237 vehicles, representing year-over-year growth of 5.7%.
The cargo segment accounted for 2,141 wholesale units in July, an increase of 20.3%. Class 5 vehicles posted the strongest gain at 378%, followed by Class 4 at 63.7%. Fifth-wheel tractor trucks rose 17%, while Class 8 vehicles declined 11%.
For the first seven months of the year, wholesale cargo sales reached 14,612 units, up 5.2%. Fifth-wheel tractors, however, remained below 2025 levels, falling 13.7%, while Class 8 vehicles posted cumulative growth of 16.5%.
Passenger vehicles also improved at the wholesale level. July sales totaled 349 units, up 31.2% year over year. January-to-July volume reached 2,625 units, an 8.8% increase, although intercity buses remained down 26.3% on a cumulative basis.
Retail activity showed a different trend. Total retail sales fell 8.6% in July to 2,940 units. Through the first seven months of 2026, the market recorded 18,734 retail units, 20.3% below the same period a year earlier.
Cargo retail sales declined 5.1% in July, although fifth-wheel tractors increased 8%. On a year-to-date basis, cargo sales were down 17.9%, while fifth-wheel tractors recorded a sharper 29.5% contraction.
Passenger retail sales fell 25.6% in July and were down 32.8% for January through July. Overall, the figures point to a stronger recovery in wholesale activity, while retail demand remains below 2025 levels.
