Mexico and Canada agreed to strengthen agricultural cooperation, expand access for Mexican products in the Canadian market, and create more trade opportunities for Indigenous communities.
Mexico’s Agriculture Secretary, Columba Jazmín López Gutiérrez, met with Canadian Ambassador Cameron MacKay to discuss steps aimed at easing trade, building business ties, and reinforcing regional supply chains.
The two countries plan to develop mechanisms that help Indigenous producers bring their goods to market and strengthen their production capacity.
During the meeting, López Gutiérrez highlighted Mexico’s Field Schools and Sembrando Vida program as examples of community-based initiatives supporting sustainable production among small and midsize farmers.
Officials also discussed closer technical and regulatory cooperation, including sanitary standards designed to facilitate access for Mexican agricultural and food products in international markets.
The initiatives fall under the 2025–2028 Canada-Mexico Action Plan, which includes measures to support trade, investment, and greater economic integration across North America.
