Mexico’s Independence Celebrations Could Generate MXN 39.6 Billion

Mexico’s 2026 Independence celebrations could generate an estimated MXN 39.6 billion in economic activity, according to the country’s national chamber of commerce, services, and tourism.

The projection is 5.5% higher than the MXN 37.5 billion estimated for 2025. It covers the September 13–16 holiday period and is expected to support sales across roughly four million businesses nationwide.

Restaurants, public markets, supermarkets, convenience stores, transportation, entertainment providers, and retailers selling traditional and commemorative goods are among the sectors expected to see increased demand.

The estimate continues an upward trend in holiday-related spending. The business group projected more than MXN 23 billion in 2023 and over MXN 35 billion in 2024.

Most of the additional activity is expected to come from spending on family gatherings, food, services, entertainment, and public celebrations during the holiday period.
