Mexico produced more than 5 million metric tons of green chiles, tomatoes, and onions through the end of August 2026, according to government agricultural data.
Green chile production reached 1.89 million metric tons, led by Sinaloa, followed by Chihuahua and San Luis Potosí. The volume recorded through August represents just over 63% of Mexico’s total 2025 output.
Onion production totaled 1.06 million metric tons, with Chihuahua, Zacatecas, and Baja California ranking as the largest producing states.
Tomatoes posted the highest output of the three crops at 2.11 million metric tons. Sinaloa was the leading producer, followed by San Luis Potosí and Sonora.
Mexico’s Agriculture Ministry said current supplies are sufficient to meet the seasonal increase in demand during September, when all three products are widely used in traditional dishes prepared for the country’s Independence celebrations.
